This is a great example of a skimmer for a pin pad that a huge portion of retail uses.  Verifone is so popular that many retailers are waiting in a backlog for newer EMV capable devices.  Some are even changing vendors due to availability.  Pay close attention to the article comments at the bottom of the page.  There are effective and simple ways to verify if pin pads have been skimmed.
